The Age of Paranoia

Psychology Today - By Stanton Peele - Nov. 09 (Opinion) - There is profound paranoia on the economic front all along the political spectrum. Conservatives AND liberals feel that bailouts are arranged for the benefit of Wall Street insiders by leaders of both parties who rely on former Goldman Sachs directors and people who have worked closely with them.

At the same time many people are suspicious about the presence of immigrant and unfamiliar religious groups in our midst. For their parts, as demonstrated by Dr. Nidal Hasan, people in these groups are paranoid about the intentions of the rest of the country towards them. Thus, there is a reciprocal exchange between anti-immigrant paranoia and paranoid acting out by its targets.

Of course, we are paranoid about the intentions of those overseas who wish to destroy the United States. But a remarkably large percentage of Muslims internationally support jihadists because they fear American intentions and believe that we hate them. Many Muslims believe that the American government itself launched the 9/11 attacks in order to justify wars against Muslim nations.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.0 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Cybercast News Service - By Terence P. Jeffrey - Sep. 10 (Editorial) - Viewed in combination, the president’s health care and immigration reform plans would in fact let people who are illegal immigrants in the United States today receive federally funded health care benefits when the plan comes on line. In his speech last night, the president said that the health insurance exchanges where people would buy federally subsidized insurance would not begin operating until four years from now. If Obama follows through on his agenda as planned, immigration reform will be enacted in the intervening time.
NewsTrust Rating: 2.7 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer

Clinton trip to India can build on Silicon Valley bonds

San Jose Mercury News - Jul. 19 (Opinion) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to India is expected to yield new initiatives in defense and space cooperation. Yet it is important to remember that the foundation for the U.S.-India geopolitical partnership that has emerged in the last decade was forged outside the realm of government policy and the confines of Washington and New Delhi.

Silicon Valley entrepreneurs have played as important a role in building ties as any diplomat or national security official. And Clinton's trip provides a good opportunity to renew the important private-sector and societal linkages that help bind the relationship together.
NewsTrust Rating: 3.3 average (not enough reviews) - See Reviews » - Review It Visit NewsTrust | About | Sign Up | Disclaimer
