Fair and Balanced Radio?

Now that they have ensured their own job security, have gotten to vote on their own pay raises (regardless of performance) and have stacked the deck against anyone who dares to challenge them, these politicians now want to pass laws exempting them from criticism, as well. This piece is a little confused and a little confusing, as it purports to be about the Fairness Doctrine in broadcasting, then veers into campaign finance and finally becomes a screed against politicians in general.

Over-the-top exercise in denial. Even the slogan "free minds and free markets" is a contradiction in terms. Anyone who has listened to AM radio lately knows how bad things have gotten. This capitalizing on fear, selfishness and hatred is all-too easy and the airwaves are a public resource with physical limits that need protection from this pollution. Even if you disagree it's a respectable opinion but it's ridiculed here. It's not protecting politicians so much as democracy from the overwhelming and corrupting dominance of money. The fairness doctrine never required complete balance, just not reporting only a single side day after day.

Excellent story on the push for revival of the FCC Fairness Doctrine. Fairness would require every station carrying Rush Limbaugh to then carry the same amount of Al Franken, no matter how miserable Al's ratings are.
