The authors’ goal is to raise alarm about the global pursuit of continuous economic growth. A planet with limited resources cannot sustain unlimited growth; such an objective undermines the ecological systems that support life and hurts more than it helps. Rather than clamoring after unending economic growth, a steady-state economy should be our goal. We need to start living within our means. This article appears to be excerpted from a larger work, where presumably the authors’ claims are supported by science, but as it stands it provides very little evidence for its claims. Instead, facts and goals are presented in bullet points.
