The notorious death squads were financed by members of the Salvadoran oligarchy and had close links to the country’s military. The death squads kidnapped, tortured, and killed suspected leftists in urban areas fueling an insurgency that retreated to rural areas and waged war on the government from the countryside. This story from January did not receive much press attention, but with the secret blanket Rawmoney is trying to enforce around his Bain activities, Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island tax dodges, and strange attempts to pose as a pal to Latinos, this connection to death squad fascists from El Salvador and the murder of Romero is coming to the forefront again.
