Raise Social Security, Medicare benefits to protect elderly

The current debates over cutting Social Security and Medicare are off the mark. Instead of cutting, we should be expanding these programs. An immediate need is for a substantial increase in Social Security benefits to provide enough income to allow seniors to live in dignity and to fulfill our national commitment of financial security for older Americans.
