I would say that this article is a good journalism overall. However, at the same time, I would argue that it has too many questions. The questions Plaschke gives are questions that are open ended. I think I heard somewhere that we should aviod open ended questions when writing articles. Although we are suppose to be non-biased, I think with this topic, it is difficult to do so unless the writer gives open ended questions. I think this is a good article especially since it is happening now, and Jeremy Lin is a name that people have heard of even if they do not really follow the NBA. If they see this title on a news page, it will attract people to read it from audiences that follow NBA religiously to just people that have heard of ... More »

Some of the news values we discussed in class can be seen within this piece. The main values reflected in this story are currency, prominence, and controversy. This article on Jeremy Lin, the star guard for the New York Knicks, was published in February. This years professional basketball season started in late February. At the time this article was published all basketball fans were largely focused on this subject. "The news must take into account whats on people minds." (Lanson 11) This article on Jeremy Lin, while not entirely focused on the sport of basketball, was newsworthy due to the focus on basketball at this time.
