What to Make of New Polling on Support for the Occupy Movement?
Americans have a long tradition of holding protesters in disdain, even when they are later proven to be on the right side of history.
All over the country people are hearing that the Occupiers are animals who are masturbating in public and shitting in the streets. The local news is luridly portraying the protests as hotbeds of crime infested with lunatics and drug addicts.
That stuff isn't disseminated just for kicks. It's done to poison the minds of the public before they have a chance to identify with the protesters.

OWS seems to be going into a broadening phase. Nobody needs to bemoan the dismantled tents; they were a diversion for negative press although they served to demonstrate the destitute nature of many of the occupiers. More significant now is the move on the banks and I, for one, would like to see this kind of action extended to the K street lobbyists in Washington, so that more people are aware of the link. There are a lot of motivated and well educated young people in those crowds and, at some point, I believe, there should be a concerted drive to register eligible participants as voters.
