while this article determines that for the most part, taxes come from the richest americans, it also offers enough explanation to show how complicated federal taxes are and how difficult and misleading it is to make generalizations. the facts showing how half of americans don't pay taxes at all, contribute to the complications, and, more importantly, indicate how many people make very little, a more vital statistic than how much difference in what's actually paid.

this does not discuss corporate taxes, which is perhaps the biggest factor in short-changing gov't's revenue.
