Good recap of recent events related to the funding of the Iraq war and how more Republican members of Congress are distancing themselves from the Bush administration.

Good political analysis of the Iraq funding issue. Love the headline; Solon was an Athenian lawgiver in antiquity.

Good because it looks at another side of the current contro over Iraq war funding, and takes an informed look into the near future.

Insightful article about the pressures some Republicans face due to the war. It avoids any position relative to the Iraq war and stays focused on the main theme.

Clear coverage of Republican worrying over their decision to send more troops to Iraq against the will of the American people. Quotes are from extremists like Lott and Boehner, not people in blue states who are most concerned about losing in 2008. The title of this article is awful. I have a good vocabulary, and I'd never heard the term "solon." Context and Wikipedia suggest that it may mean someone in the middle, after an old philosopher. Readers shouldn't have to guess at things like this.

All this is saying is that the surge has to show some progress by the fall. Since Petraeus himself said this, it only makes sense that the republicans would agree with him. The bit about democrats targeting blue state republicans makes an unsaid point, the democrats are only doing this for political gain. They want this issue to make gains in the house and senate. They don't care at all about what happens to the Iraqis.
