Hedges offers a wide and deep critique of American capitalism and the culture it has shaped, particularly in the last several decades. He's knowledgeable and thoughtful, which makes the argument compelling. However, I think he fails to acknowledge forces from the edge, both cultural and economic, that challenge and poke holes through the PR-driven Potemkin village Hedges describes.
