This well-written editorial (which has a compelling lede) considers the political taboo against reforming the US gun culture as a way to reduce gun violence. In its call for prohibitions against owning handguns, though, I think it falls short of grappling with the larger culture of violence.

D'uh. But it passes for genius in our idiocracy. Lots of international data to boot. He could have added that Denver Sheriffs in the wild West understood as did Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, that to preserve the peace, you had to confiscate the weapons--not multiply them. And guess what? It worked. Someday perhaps, we'll remember that lesson.

Gun control..as in automatic weapons, is like land mines, a no brainer. I was very sad no comment about production, gov. subsidies to manufactures and importation were mention. Most violent deaths/murders are attributable to hand guns...made to kill our.....

Well-written and well-argued. This article will push some people who are still wishy-washy about gun control over, but without mentioning the good argument that the Second Amendment was intended for well-organized militias (not mentally ill students), it won't reach into the Republican territory where I grew up.
