While I believe that this piece is over-reaching and alarmist in many areas, such comprehensive pieces are valuable in sounding the alarm on trends an author finds dangerous and calling us all to look for ourselves and form our own conclusions.

this is definitely an opinion piece with many facts to support a thesis about what's been happening in the U.S. It would have been a better piece with some information from experts who have studied patterns which led to fascist regimes. However, there have been others looking at the Bush administration's actions who have taken similar paths as Ms. Wolf. These are alarming trends in the United States, but I have to admit that the last time a steps-to-fascism list scared me, it was different. It had a step of marginalizing women, for example. While these all also seem like steps in the wrong direction for any country, these lists are presented, sourcelessly, as the authoritative warning signs of fascism.

This story points out the road signs for the path we are on. It would have been better to provide more sources, but that doesn't lessen the well presented warnings. I have always believed, even during the Cold War, that the danger to this country was greater from within our government than from outside sources. This story should serve to make all of us more alert to the potential consequences of what is happening.
