This opinion piece has modest journalistic merit. The authors appear to be staffers at the Democratic National Committee, as their opinions are totally on the side of the Democrats. No attention is paid to the inability of the Democrats in the Senate to make any contribution to the discussion, having not even produced a budget for 2012. No attention is paid to the widespread view among economists, left and right, that raising tax rates in a period of high unemployment will make things worse. The fact that the Republicans have provided months ago a well-thought out plan is ignored. The arguments made by Obama against raising the debt ceiling a few years ago, and his arguments against raising tax rates in December 2010 are ignored. Meager research effort and highly biased.
