A very informative article, complete with a 40-year timeline. I'm not sure what to do with all the information, but one thing seems certain: the next space phase is exploration using robotics to determine where humans shall go in the phase after that.

All this depends upon America still having the world's premiere space agency; and given where the economy is headed, that's up for grabs.
