An annual survey finds Denmark first and Chad last in the use of info tech and networks to drive economic growth

The Geneva-based World Economic Forum, in partnership with French management school INSEAD, has just published its sixth Global Information Technology Report, which rates how well countries around the world use information and communications technology (ICT) to drive growth and development. This year saw several notable trends, including strong ICT growth in Latin America, a decline in U.S. standing, and further slippage for Africa.

Mainly a report on the findings of one recent survey report, this article makes the point that "countries that have high networked readiness are more likely to flourish over the long haul in the emerging, information-driven global economy." Perhaps surprisingly, it also shows the US falling behind of late, and concludes about us Americans that "They cannot assume that because it's the leading economy of the world, it's also at the leading edge of using technology for development,"
