Sponsor of immigrant tuition bill says repeal efforts could cost millions

The lead sponsor who objects to efforts to overturn his bill granting in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants said referendum efforts by opponents could cost the state millions and the drive is being funded by outside Tea Party interests. But state officials say the cost of putting the issue on the ballot is fairly minimal, and some organizers say there is little evidence of out-of-state funding for the petition drive. Full Story »

The structure of this piece could be improved; it starts with quotes from a legislator that are then disputed by multiple sources. Is the news that he said what he said, or is it that it's disputed? (Or neither?) Neither the reporter nor anyone quoted can dig up proof of the Tea Party influence, but what would Ramirez say about that -- can he support his statements? We don't know. Finally, the article ends with "Tea Party groups" canvassing for signatures, but the affiliation of the groups listed with the Tea Party is not clear. This piece needs a thorough edit for clarity's sake.
