This article and its associated video (in Arabic with English subtitles) provide valuable insights into the thinking of top Islamic leaders, especially in Iran, who believe that, according to the Hadith, it is their role to prepare the world for "The Coming" of the final Islamic messiah. The focus here is on the current uprisings in the Middle East, especially the ouster of Egypt's Mubarak and the likely demise of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, whose health is deteriorating. These events are heralded as clear signs that Israel's annihilation, the defeat of the West, and Allah's governance of the world are close at hand.

The politically correct point of view is that "Islam is a religion of peace," which is accurate enough, depending on how one defines "peace." This video, and the associated story, make it clear that many of Islam's most devout adherents view "peace" as that period of time following the appearance of the last Islamic messiah, the Shiites' 12th imam, Mahdi. In this context "peace" means the annihilation of Israel, the defeat of the West, the destruction of all infidels, and the conquest of the entire world by Islam following a nuclear holocaust. It is frightening that Islamist extremists are actively working to bring about such a holocaust, secure in their belief that Allah will protect them and ensure their victory, both temporal and spiritual. Makes one yearn for more rational times, with the former Soviet Union and "Mutual Assured Destruction."
