I like it-- a novel approach to the energy crisis, with lots of info I dodn't know, and lots of caveats about its current practicality and cost.
This is a very well-written, detailed story of how a man depends solely on renewable energy for day-to-day usage; gives one hope for the future!
This is an interesting read. I would have liked to have leaerned whether there are other options for staying off the grid completely other than hydrogen.
This story comes really close to presenting a complete description of the pros and cons of a solar powered house and car using hydrogen as the storage mechanism. Good balance, and well presented with just the right level of detail for the average person.
This is a fine article offering an answer to "what shall we do about global warming" by describing a solar pilot project and attempts to scale it up.
Great! Sure it is expensive to live off the grid right now. But if serious developments are invested in, this could be a new industry. I for one would definitely consider taking out a long term loan or additional mortgage costs if the upside to home ownership included energy independence.
The reporter on this obviously comes into the piece making a glaring assumption about hydrogen and then does not question basic aspects of the story or show his own independent research. Hydrogen is merely a replacement for batteries, it is an energy storage system, not an energy source. With an efficiency of only 50% going in to the storage tanks it is already far less efficient than batteries. Also, hydrogen atoms are so small that they will tend to pass through the skin of propane ... More »
