Dems not taking debt seriously

In the context of federal spending that will total something like $3.8 trillion this year, $61 billion is a rounding error. Yet the Democrats resisting that amount in House-approved cuts say it will wreck the economy while leaving children unschooled, taking food from the mouths of the elderly, and casting disabled people into the streets. the writer leaves out even a thought of many other issues related to his arguments, including who gets the cookies, leaving whom to get the crumbs, what other solutions are potentially possible, and how government is the same as, perhaps, in limited analogies, but more how it is different from, any family.

This opinion is excellent journalism. The author has a definite point of view, but takes care to include opposing views from several sources. The statements on both sides are accurate and presented fairly. Two developments should however have been included that are in favor of the Democrats. One is the dramatic change to bipartisanship and openness in the House of Representatives under the new Speaker, which produced a Continuing Resolution that was debated for a week, and included ten amendments proposed by Democrats. Second, Sen. Cardin has joined Sen. Coburn to proposed ending payments of the ethanol tax credit.
