While I'm no animal rights activist, nor a vegan or vegetarian I do have a heart for pets. Just today, one of my students told me that someone stole her dog and she's devastated. Before owning a dog, I never understood how a human could develop such a passion for a pet; but once a pet-owner, my heart goes out to anyone who loses a pet, including my student. It's truly unfortunate that families are having to make a choice that really leaves them risking a family member's life.
