Notes:
This piece seems overly long and self-serving. People have the right to write in as coarse a manner as they wish on their blogs, but with every action comes consequences. While those on the right are likely just as evil as she complains, she can't blame them for giving them ammunition by cursing like a sailor. The nature of politics is to look for your opponents weak points and make the most you can out of them. She understandably didn't want to be one of those weak points for the ... More »

This is a more balanced story than I would expect from a person who has been driven out of a job by right wing extremists intent on shutting down informed political discourse. It is extremely important in terms of what will happen in the 2008 presidential election and provides great background.
Note: I am very biased on this. I have close ties to the Edwards campaign, and have set up the "I am Amanda Marcotte" group on Facebook.

Notes:
This is well written, and worth the read. It's important to get the story from Marcotte's perspective. That being said, she doesn't back up the thrust of her argument- that the campaign against her was part of a larger program of misogynistic smearing of feminists- with anything more than her own anecdotal evidence. That's a strong claim to make without substantive data to back it up.
Notes:
"Self-serving" is a great description of this piece. As insight into the mind of an unrestrained non-journalist with a blog, it was great. But as a view of the real world.... the "no one gives us young female bloggers a chance because we aren't white males" tone showed an amazing disconnect from reality. The last "new media" conference I attended had young, female bloggers all over the place, handily outnumbering Ms. Marcotte's stereotypical "30-something nerdy young white men who ... More »

No suprise here. Nothing about the cadidate , campaign or anything else truly new. Expressing strong opinions against the positions heald by the far-right puts you in a feeding frenzy of crackpots. After the swiftboat thing
she was suprised?
Notes:
Considering Amanda Marcotte's proximity to the story and the first person rendition, it seems to be a fair explanation of the perils of partisan political blogging.
Notes:
I am disappointed that these 2 women resigned over nothing but hot air from people whose own history is full of unacceptable rhetoric. My own attitude tends to be: bring it on, jerks.

Notes:
Maybe I missed it, but she doesn't discuss John Edwards at all, not her perception of him before, during, or after this brouhaha. I like Amanda Marcotte, but I'm more interested in John Edwards, given that I'm being asked to cast a vote for the guy for President.
Notes:
The only reason I didn't give this article all 5's is that I sense a little bit of personal bias in Ms. Marcotte's words. What is that bias? I'd rather not say but rather allow the readers to decide for themselves. I believe she is a _____ hater.
