John Edwards learned the hard way this week of the perils of grafting the raucous culture of the Internet to the decidedly staider world of a presidential campaign.

Mr. Edwards announced on Thursday, after 36 hours of deliberation, that he would keep on his campaign staff two liberal feminist bloggers with long cybertrails of incendiary comments on sex, religion and politics. Full Story »

This article points out the price one pays for speaking one's mind, and not minding one's words on the blogosphere. It is harder to do a mea culpa when it's in writing. Social mores for this media are being defined by situations like these.

The premise of this opinion piece is that Sen. Edwards can't have it both ways as far as religion is concerned. I, for one, however, think he's getting a bad rap, and admire him for standing his ground.

Sound reporting on the new media impact on conventional processes. The Simon Rosenberg quote "“This is all being made up as we go along,” could as easily refer to the content of blogs as to how difficult it will be to apply old campaign rules to new media campaigns.
