Israel's Arab problem hits home

Tensions are rising between Israel's Jewish and Arab citizens -- and could affect the chances for peace, or wider war, in the Middle East.

When I got in, I noticed that the driver, an Arab, was gripping the wheel tightly and his movements seemed labored. As we pulled into traffic, he slumped back in his seat, sighing. Full Story »

In the game of highest stakes poker that is Iraq, this report provides a description of the next metaphorical card that is being played by Iran. The war has left Iraq in need of reconstruction and economic assistance it appears Iran is willing to play to their needs and toy with the Bush Administration in the process. Important journalism.

I like this article's depiction of Israeli Arabs virtual invisibility as well as their treatment as second-class citizens, if not worse. This is the sort of thing that former Pres. Jimmy Carter caught hell for trying to expose.

Wow! This is first rate. It's rare to see this issue discussed openly. Israel is replaying Settlers vs. Native Americans, but the genocide isn't working out like Wounded Knee. I hope we get to see more reports like this; it sure would be great if people started to see how having your house bulldozed would make you mad enough to blow up the new 'owners'.

The story shows the complexity of multiculturalism in a state that is by definition of a specific religious and ethnic orientation. The whole situation is so difficult to grasp, I don't know how anyone could have a firm and unshakable opinion of it without being a pig-headed hipocrite!

In the United States we very seldom get to hear the Arab views of Arabs living in Isreal.

The article is mostly an opinion piece based on interaction with one Arab taxi driver and time in the Prime Minister's office. Nevertheless, it is an important and accurate story.
