In the past decade, reformers have always backed down in Iran when challenged by hardliners, in part because no one wants to relive the horrible Great Terror of the 1980s after the revolution, when faction-fighting produced blood in the streets. Interesting observations by Middle East expert Juan Cole about alleged election fraud in Iran (see links for more recent posts on his blog). The author makes some reasonable points to support his view that the election was stolen, but as he himself points out, much of it is speculative, rather than based on verifiable facts. With that in mind, I find the title of this post premature ('Stealing the Iranian Election').
