Excellent story. Although it comes off as slightly partisan -- it's Mother Jones, after all -- this is a fair and thorough assessment of Olson's motives in bringing Proposition 8 to the Supreme Court.

I thought this was an odd piece with at least two major flaws: 1) The co-counsel, David Boies, is mentioned in passing, but we don't get background on who his is. 2) the consequences of losing in the Supreme Court aren't explained.

I find this article to be like many I read today; in an attempt to be even-handed, they need to make a case for hard to believe theories on what is going on today. Yes, it is extremely odd that Ted Olson would try to be the public legal face of gay rights. But there is no hard evidence offered. Ted Olson may have the wrong motives, but this article doesn't make the case for it. Still, an extremely interesting article.
