There will be ample debate about why voters from across the political spectrum rejected Sacramento's proposed budget fix, but there is no credible evidence that they wanted to see vital investments and programs hit with $21 billion worth of Draconian cuts. Secure from his perch at the Apollo Alliance, Angelides can afford to tell the truth. However, as a former state treasurer, he has some claim to special knowledge. And more than a few people who read this should wish he'd won his race for governor.

While this is strictly about California, this state has a habit of leading the way for good or ill. So what you see here today could just as easily show up in Alaska or South Carolina in the months to come.
