Color-coded terror alerts may end

The Homeland Security Department is proposing to discontinue the color-coded terror alert system that became a symbol of the country's post-9/11 jitters and the butt of late-night talk show jokes.

This article is too thorough in its coverage of the official, PR-directed thought process, and not informative enough about the actual efficacy of the system or improvements proposed in a new system.

I am glad about this, however. I just hope they don't replace it with something more Orwellian.

This "AP Exclusive" doesn't really seem like news, yet. While there may be changes to the alert system, there are no changes at this time, so why is the article exclusive news? Most of the sources are gathered from other media, including "Good Morning America" and "The Late Show."

I'm not sure how important this is since most of the people I know pay little attention and don't really know what each level means. Maybe it will be replace with a more useful system.
