Beck is a man who wouldn't know skepticism if it bit him on the nose. He's not *really* being skeptical when he says he doesn't know if this stuff is true. He's just covering for the future where his scenario doesn't play out. Beck's conflict-of-interests in this case also seem quite blatant, as I seem to recall that he endorses expensive Y2K-ish food rations and gardening kits.
