This is a straight journalistic interview of a person who holds a great deal of "position power" by virtue of the fact that he is now in charge of CBS news, home of Edward R. Murrow, Eric Savereid, Fred Friendly, Dan Rather, etc. By simple questions, the president, supposedly graduating from an ivy league college with high honors, reveals himself to be amazingly shallow and completely ignorant of the responsibility for the news. This story is only relevant if you watch TV news and wonder why it is so poor. The self-satisfied and inherently arrogant elitist attitude on display by the interviewee is the not-so-surprising answer. Glib, facile answers to non-hardball questions that beg for incisive--and maybe even interesting!--answers, are drowned in justifications that reveal why he was promoted and, coincidentally, why there will be no change in content to network news in the foreseeable future, only more ... A very intensive and informative inquiry into the head of the head of CBS News. Says a lot about how the industry works (or doesn't). Particularly liked the ending - ROC: Well, if you want to support the United States and the troops, isn’t it best to ask questions before they are put in harm’s way? SM: Yeah, absolutely. I can’t disagree with that.
