(Blog Post) During my brief time in Kazakhstan, I got the impression that the government is trying to move beyond its repressive past. The country, a former Soviet republic, also seems to be an island of stability in a volatile part of the world. an interesting straight-forward, first-hand account of a very current free-speech issue in kazakhstan, from a journalist on newstrust. lots of links to sources which round-out the information in the story. i wish there was some explanation to explain the paradox of hosting such a conference and the new proposed laws. some of the population's purposes and percentages of internet use currently would be interesting
Good job capturing this event and following up with Plakhina. It leaves the government position on the 6 journalists unknown, however.
