The author doesn't even attempt to follow up with John Reilly, who the article claims "slammed the use of their estimates". In fact, Mr. Reilly later confirmed those very estimates: http://weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/016/412cwueq.asp

Author presents claims from all sides but does no research to validate claims. The headline (not necessarily Ms. Lerer's fault) doesn't indicate that the number the GOP is using is disputed by author of the study which is the most salient point in the entire article.
