I think this story is interesting and timely in the sense that it directly relates to current news regarding the same topic. It is well written and has good quotes. By starting with a more personal story, it immedaitely draws the reader in. As well, there is a good nut graf that ties it into here and now. I think that the writing style is concise and to the point.
