Richard Holbrooke learned some hard lessons in Vietnam. Now he is applying them to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
As the special representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Holbrooke is arguably one of the most important figures in U.S. foreign policy. Up until this point, discussions about Afghanistan have centered on Gen. David H. Petraeus' military strategy and his efforts to weaken the hold of the Taliban.
