there may be a valid perspective in this, that the country is more politically 'center' than it is liberal, but the elements don't hold together. the largest disconnect ihere is the huge assumption that pres.obama is so much further left. a different assumption, that the proposed policies and budgets are not liberal, but radical, which is quite different, could make sense. media and congress must see the forest of a new future already growing, instead of trees already dying ... Fred Barnes, like so many other Republican writers, are writing about Republican silver linings everywhere they can imagine and then "see" them. Traumatized by the Republican crash of the last two elections (due to American crashes at home and abroad, thanks to disastrous Republican policies), Barnes sees future Republican success in Obama's policies.
