This article is aimed at a particular conclusion. I think the conclusion is a valid one but from the standpoint of objective journalism, it should have considered opposing views and possible alternative interpretations of the data.

The data reported in this article make it perfectly clear that the United States does not have a functioning democracy. Instead we have a market based government in which money equals influence and policy is written to favor whoever comes up with the most money. This will not end until we create a viable publicly funded alternative to the current privately funded campaign system. If we do not accomplish this, the combination of greed and foolishness manifested in by the sources of private campaign finances will destroy the country. It has already made a big start in that direction. The Fair Elections Now Act, currently before the Congress, would be a good start. People need to contact their congress persons and demand that they support this legislation. For more information go to washclean.org.
