Tyler Perry: Hollywood's new commander in chief?

Last night, I was asked to speak at an evening program at a local temple. Since the topic was "Jews in Hollywood," I brought along a true Hollywood Jew, Sony Pictures' Amy Pascal, who spoke quite eloquently and insightfully about her faith and how it's sometimes tested by her job. Being my usual contrarian self, at one point I suddenly veered off topic, asking Pascal why -- if America had managed to elect an African American president -- was Hollywood was ... Full Story »

Solid piece on how America's cultural divide impacts the career of Tyler Perry and the success of his films. The article balances Perry's success as a producer/director with the limited reach of his films.

Yes, I believe that this article is an example of good journalism. This article is very insightful, because it shows, in detail, some of the hardships Tyler Perry had to face while trying to succeed in Hollywood. Being a black man in America is hard, yet Perry tries to not let that defeat him. Instead of proving the world wrong he overcomes all adversaries and obstacles and still manages to make successful movies. Perry's films have been hits after hits consistenly and he is among some of the greats such as George Clooney, and Eddie Murphy. This story is very informative, because it tells how successful Tyler Perry really is. Most of his films are made at only a $10 million budget, yet gross more than $50 million on opening ... More »

This is great journalism. I was very pleased to read this article. I liked the way the article transitioned into talking about Tyler Perry. I am very proud of the accomplishments of the entrepreneur and wish him continued success. I really enjoyed the comparison of him to George Lucas. As an African-America, I myself am proud of his accomplishments and how his empire is expanding in such a way. Hopefully, Tyler Perry will inspire others to be so eager to conquer things so unexpected and do the same thing. All of the productions that Perry creates I may not particularly be the biggest fan of but I definitely after reading this article will always support them because I find it so fascinating how hard he works. Do I feel as though ... More »

It was a good movie review but it was more... factual then anything else. I think this writer could have added a little less detail and more exciting word choice.
