I liked this article because not only did I learn a lot about the new president of the NAACP, but it touched on the fact that we don't hear a lot from the NAACP as an organization anymore. And I agree with the writer in that even though people may think the organization is out of touch, or a 'relic,' there is still so much to be accomplished in the way of African American rights. I am currently doing a project focusing on criminal justice, and I thought it was good how he pointed out some statistics about that- because the numbers of ethnic minorities that are incarcerated currently are reaching overwhelming levels. It is good to hear that this new president is doing all that he can to transform the NAACP into something that we really need right now. I also really enjoyed the point about the fact that some might see the best thing that the NAACP can do right now is to become a sort of second infrastructure for America's black people. But the author points out that that is exactly the kind of attitude they have been advocating against since their founding. The NAACP should be there to advocate better policy in order to have a fully functioning democracy.
