The author makes a good case for prospects of the coming economic conditions in China. While China at the moment is suffering far less than other countries, if it's GNP continues to decline there could be bloodshed in the streets. When you've been drinking champagne, the thought of drinking dirty water isn't very enticing.

While China has allowed the internet (with restrictions), and more foreign visitors, it's hard to get the genie back in the bottle.
