Quality journalism requires a basis in reality. This analysis either lacks that, or is intentionally disingenuous. A) The Republicans did not have a 2000-2004 edge on foreign policy issues; they sold a lie via a right wing mainstream media complex and hoodwinked the public. B) The party did not choose McCain; the people chose McCain as the least of the horrible choices among the candidates. C) Rich Democratic donors are a scarcity compared to rich republican donors, their core constituency. Hawkins seems to advocate opposition, recruiting the minorities they hate, selling a "brand," clean air and water while advocating shale oil, and embracing Rush Limbaugh.

The only way a party with this philosophical base can succeed is by further monopolizing the mainstream media and destroying critical thought. They have come dangerously close.
