GOP seethes over Charlie Crist's stimulus-plan support

Gov. Charlie Crist may be popular in Florida, but his unbridled support for the Democrats' stimulus package has Republicans seething.

As Democrats lavish praise on Florida's Republican governor for enthusiastically supporting their economic stimulus package, Republicans are questioning whether Crist damaged his future.

''I don't think he's helped any national Republican ambitions he may have by stepping up to the plate and batting for the other team. . . . There's a difference between working in a bipartisan way for the common good and switching sides and putting on the other ... Full Story »

More (unfortunate) evidence that bi-partisanship is a dream. It is interesting to see the republicons savage Crist with a repub. consultant saying: "There's a difference between working in a bipartisan way for the common good and switching sides and putting on the other team's jersey,'' Yet they embrace Lieberman (the turncoat) when he put on the "other team's jersey" and endorsed McCain and criticized "his" team and Obama. Can you say: hypocritical opportunists?

While it's full of republicans ranting over Crist's support of the stimulus plan, thats not sourcing, that's sour grapes. While the republican party are trying to win elections, Crist is following his conscious. More power to him.

You would think that for the good of this country, for once the republicans would take one for America.

Sourced largely from prominent Republicans, this story provides insight into a divide within the party and attempts by some to unify using opposition to the stimulus as the linchpin.

This is a well written and well sourced story contrasting Crist's support of the stimulus package and his reasons for it with the position of both Florida and national Republicans.

it appears here there was only one republican to be found that could see any good reason gov. crist has for his support of the bill. the story could have given more info on florida's financial needs. however, the story illustrates well the lockstep that now appears to be how republicans march forward.

This is yet another political report containing 4 Ws and H of basic journalism, with the 5th W missing: What, for Pete's sake, is in the stimulus bill that so offends Republicans to the point of running against it in the future and dooming Crist for supporting it. This is shoddy journalism, folks: It contains no background other than what appeals to most people: partisan politics (contained in more than a few reviews here when we're supposed to be critiquing journalism).

When we read stories for politics rather than journalism, we fill in the missing facts subconsciously.

A dandy article about the divisions created by the controversial bill. Good context, several sources and very interesting look at the desperation of one state's Governor who supports a plan he admits hasn't bothered reading the details.

The story reports on an interesting facet of Republicanism. Loyalty and a gang mentality seems to be the highest strata of the value structure. A Republican who favors what he views as in the best interest of his state and his people can thereby be deemed a bi-partisan traitor.

Better than that there previous governor of Florida.

Loved the quote by Broward County Republican state committeeman Ed Kennedy about Gov. Crist "cooking his own goose".

Trouble in (what used to be) paradise for the GOP?

Crist is a light weight. The last thing we need is this screwball in the senate. I live in Florida.
