Farmers fight climate bill, but warming spells trouble for them

Farm state senators and others soon will get a taste of what their colleagues from Missouri already have piled high on their desks: thousands of letters from farmers urging them to vote against the climate and energy bill.

This is an excellent summary of what faces those who are most immediately affected by the cap and trade legislation. It is well-sourced, and while it leans toward the benefits to farming of such legislation over the long term, it readily acknowledges the possible hardships to farmers if the law isn't carefully crafted to help them get through the short term challenges.

As a farm owner and former operator, I see this story as an example of political issues. Farmers used to be able to change more rapidly than the government. Now, listening to political leaders and television and radio programs has changed the farmers to negative positions. If a farmer is not aware of changes in the environment, their memories have failed. This article makes me sad.

Disappointing...mostly just stringing a lot of farmer's quotes about why they were afraid of a climate bill. Lightweight, and disappointing given the source.
