News Corp. gave $1 million to pro-GOP group

News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, contributed $1 million this summer to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the business lobby that has been running an aggressive campaign in support of the Republican effort to retake Congress, a source close to the company told POLITICO.

Good, detailed reporting on this clear conflict of interest. It considers the interplay of pragmatic versus ideological motivations, and looks into whether Fox News chief Roger Ailes had a role.

Smith seems to have done some good investigative reporting to uncover the contributions, which are a huge ethical violation for any organization then pretending to be a fair and balanced presenter of political "news."

The political donations identify News Corp as a major political operative, in case anybody had any doubt. Their reporting should be given no credence.. Their publications should be identified as campaign ads. Their costs in ad revenue should be matched by publicly financed election matching funds. An informed democracy needs valid unbiased information.
