Gaza Media War

(VIDEO - 5:25) Israel and Hamas are fighting on two fronts in Gaza -- a military battle, and a battle for public opinion. People around the world are being confronted with horrifying images of war, as well as all sorts of spin from various sources in the ongoing Gaza tragedy. As the combatants attempt to control the message, the media sphere is also crowded with self-promotion by secondary players. Full Story »

Exactly what we've needed since war broke out in Gaza -- a thorough analysis of how news organizations around the world are covering the conflict. This examines how Israeli and Palestinian militants are attempting to influence reporting -- largely through graphic imagery and propaganda -- and takes some Western media to task for buying into the skewed messages. Outstanding piece.

Insightful overview showing how TV news providers from around the world are covering the crisis in Gaza. This video report contrasts viewpoints from Israeli and Arab sources, as well as commentaries from France, Russia and the U.K. -- in the trademark 'Roshomon' montage format which makes Link TV's Global Pulse series so interesting. In just five minutes, this segment manages to convey important factual information from all sides, as well as provide helpful context about this tragic conflict.

Disclosure: Link TV is partnering with NewsTrust this week to find the best journalism on Gaza. This did not influence my personal review of this excellent Global Pulse story, which I found very informative.

Each of the clips gives little more than a sense of it's direction, but all together this gives a high altitude view of the differing agendas pursued by media outlets, some possibly guided by governments. A typical excellent Global Pulse segment.

I am still waiting for someone to point out that the Hamas rockets shown lying on the ground in Israeli news are semi-intact, and there is no crater. I'm not sure if the use of these "toys" is a sign of Hamas desperation, or a clever ploy to make Israel overplay their hand and lose in the end.

A whirlwind view of a diverse variety of media outlets' takes on the war in Gaza. Analysis like this is crucial to understanding what is really happening during events like this throughout the world. This segment could have been even more in-depth, as the reporter just begins to look at the very different media lenses each outlet is looking through as it reports on Gaza. Focused, informative and relevant.

Excellent presentation of the generally-unmentioned facts in the PR/Propaganda war for media coverage of the Israeli government's continuing attacks on Gaza. A "MUST" for developing a clear understanding of the facts in this 'war.'

Brilliant and compelling evaluation of media reporting in this criminally uneven "battle" between one of the world's most heavily armed military forces and a captive, deprived population unable to leave. The damage done through uneven and misleading reporting must be undone through discovery and presentation of the facts.

The short video covers a lot of ground looking at journalistic ethics and examples of reporting and biases that are evident.

Good analysis of diverse news sources is incredibly important today. The article importantly points out that this is every bit as much a war of press coverage as it is a war of physical aggression.

We must do our best to pay attention to coverage from all over the world when any conflict breaks out. Taking advantage of our access to information from all sides is the only chance we have to make decisions not solely based on propaganda or political needs.
