President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush sat down with The Dallas Morning News' Lori Stahl, Todd Gillman and William McKenzie on Thursday for a 75-minute interview on their plans for the Bush presidential library and institute at Southern Methodist University and a look back at the last eight years.

A softball interview by his hometown newpaper owned by one of his supporters. Having known GWB off and on since his father was defeated in his senate bid in 1972, GWB has always told a good story, whether it was to entertain political groupies or get fat cats to open their wallets. He is now just beginning his campain for his place in history. There was no confrontation when GWB ignored or mistated facts, and he was allowed to control the interview process. A

revealing interview starting with his vision of a scholarly archival institute in texas and goes on to surprising comments by him about events of his policies and events of his tenure. it's not hard to see the likability that people have found in g.w. during this interview. he doesn't appear to believe that he was so misguided yet he mentions regarding hindsight, " something you can do: pick people who know what they're doing." how he airbrushes his torture policy is also ... This is an interview transcript, with questions by three Dallas Morning News staffers and President Bush. It is enlightening for the opportunity to read their questions and his answers.

The story gives some clues as to what is going around in his mind. The distance from reality becomes a little apparent.
