Marsh takes a view that's difficult to reject, and, among liberal war opponents, pretty rare. He disagrees with Matthew Hoh, who resigned from the Foreign Service in protest of the Afghanistan war, arguing that military withdrawal from the country would leave it a failed state largely because women would suffer. His premise is compelling, but his case is not very detailed. Readers need to hear more than "Karma is a bitch" to be convinced staying in Afghanistan is a good idea.
