Conservatives Maintain Edge as Top Ideological Group

Conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals in the American populace in 2009, confirming a finding that Gallup first noted in June. Forty percent of Americans describe their political views as conservative, 36% as moderate, and 20% as liberal. This story presents the results of a large poll objectively and provides fair analysis. In addition, the results are interesting.

Once a "moderate" Republican, I'm afraid that I'm bucking the trend. Observing the state of our nation over the last 25 years or so has been pushing my views leftward. I still consider myself a moderate but my Republican friends consider me a liberal. Perhaps they are right -- I see almost all of the public opinion changes cited in this article to be in a disconcerting direction.
