I actually started out thinking about philanthropy in the late 1990s when I was writing about a lot of the dot-com millionaires at the time and finding that a number of them were talking about philanthropy as a solution to what psychologists call sudden-wealth syndrome. This is an excellent interview that asks some critical questions about 'Philanthrocapitalism'. It's even-handed, and highly informative, and appropriately skeptical.
