The party launched a Faith in Action initiative and hosted, for the first time, a faith caucus at its convention. This is quality journalism as it takes a fair minded look at the state of religion and politics in the US. The author provides a framework on political/religious attitudes within which it seems President-elect Obama's and other politicians can be comfortably viewed.

I fear the concept of leaders on the left claiming the "moral center" and seeking to heal divides with the radical right, without requiring them to give any ground on the issues of abortion and LGBT rights. In this scenario, it seems to me, the alliances that will result may leave these divisive, but important, issues on the back burner.
