Excuses wearing thin for Obama, media pals

Have you heard the news? President Obama inherited an economic mess from the Bush administration.

You say that's hardly news? But it's been the message sounded over and over by the White House. Top Obama adviser David Axelrod said on one of the Sunday news shows, "He walked in the door, we had the worst economy since the Great Depression." In San Francisco, Obama talked of being "busy with our mop." White House heavy hitter Rahm Emanuel used the ... Full Story »

Not quite as irresponsible as it is inane, Huntley's op-ed doesn't begin to make a reasonable case about the Obama administration's media relations. The examples are disparate and Huntley doesn't spend enough time discussing each to convincingly argue that a trend exists.

This partisan opinion sounds more like a conspiracy theory than good journalism. In this rambling and disjointed article, the author implies that the Obama administration is working with its "media allies" at CNN and MSNBC to demonize its opponents and damn 'Americans as racist, unpatriotic and treasonous.' This column provides no real evidence to back up these assertions -- other than a laundry list of unrelated news events -- and the author makes no attempts to present the other ... More »

My crap detector went off, big time. The premise of this opinion piece is that mainstream media is being too lenient on Obama and too harsh on his critics. Huntley's main fault is laziness. He makes assertion upon assertion but fails to provide documentation. For example, about Rush Limbaugh: "He was smeared on CNN and MSNBC with false accusations of making two racist comments." Maybe so, maybe not. But you won't find those comments here, nor any refutations. What a load of crap.

This is not journalism. It is an opinion piece whose central thesis is that, 10 months after taking office, President Obama should have undone the damage it took the Bush Administration and the GOP eight years to achieve. It cherry picks facts and is rife with the persecution syndrome that has been at the fore since movement conservatiism was kicked to the curb in the last election. The author is clearly writing for those who already share his position, and is unlikely to win any converts.
