The writer makes an important point about what 'apartheid' is and asserts that what is happening in Israel in fact meets the definition. It would have been good if the article included more specific examples.

This blog review of Carter's recent book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid" is part of a dialog. It attempts to get beyond the irate polemics about Carter's choice of word by establishing a factual basis for that choice. The post doesn't claim to be, and isn't, "balanced," but it is part of a (desperately needed) formal and respectful dialog.

While not exactly objective, this blog is a very effective defense of former Pres. Jimmy Carter's premise of Israel's version of "apartheid" against Palestinians. I especially like Mr. Wallis' contention about the separate but unequal lives of each ethnicity, as well as the comaprison of Israel to the Afrikkaners!

There are two fundamental flaws with this post. First, it is a rhetorial con job to apply a term describing a policy explicitly designed on racial grounds to measures designed explicitly and only to prevent terrorists and suicide bombers from entering Israel to kill and maim. One wonders how it is possible to maintain so studied a blindness to this obvious facet of reality. Second, it is intellectually dishonest to review Carter's book without at least acknowledging that there is ... More »

Just a short blog. But needed, and more like them, if Carter's book is to spark this long over due revaluation of, not just Israeli, but Western policy for this region.

Look, I support Israel 100% and always have. However, it was clear once they decided to hold the border gains from the war that there would have to be an aparthied like solution or they would be voted out of their own country. At the time the Israeli's were justifiably too scared of another attack to give up the geographical buffers they captured. But that doesn't change the reality. Then once they decided to put settlers there they locked themselves into the cul-de-sac. Sad but true.

The Holy Republic of Zion continues to prohibit Muslims and Christians to vote. It continues to confiscate the land of the Muslims of Palestine, and to kidnap, rob, and slaughter Palestinian men, women and children. Then this Republic cries out pathetically when the people it is destroying fight back. The Jewish people themselves must put an end to this madness.
